Upcoming talk about being in Cape Town for the World Cup
Well-known football personality, television critic, and Western Cape Soccer Ambassador for the World Cup, Worshipful Brother Sergio dos Santos is a member of this esteemed lodge and will be chairing an open meeting on the 2010 Soccer World Cup on 21 January 2010. Bro dos Santos will give a lecture on "The Perceptions, Opinions and Expectations of the World Cup relating to Cape Town" which will be followed by a question and answer session. The meeting open to both masonic and non-masonic visitors (including men and woman).
Bro. Morris Levin celebrates 60th year in Freemasonry
Lodge de Goede Verwachting recently celebrated Right Worshipful Brother Morris Levin's 60th year in Freemasonry. It was a magnificent evening attended by, among others, the Grand Master and members of the Provincial Grand Lodge. The evening took the form of a second degree working combined with Lodge Simon van der Stel to pass one of their brethren. Before the closing of the lodge, certificates were presented to Morris by the Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Armiston Watson and Right Worshipful Brother Sydney Raymond. 1908-2008 Centenary Celebration Report
Thursday 21st August 2008 was a memorable, scintillating evening for the members of the Lodge de Goede Verwachting and visiting Brethren. Proceedings for the long-awaited centenary celebration of the Lodge de Goede Verwachting were conducted with dignity, joy and excitement, at the Goede Hoop Complex in Cape Town situated next to the South African Houses of Parliament. As part of this rare and interesting ceremony, at which 97 Brethren were in attendance, the Presiding Master was presented with the Re-Dedication Charter to the Lodge for safe keeping. The ceremony was followed by a banquet at which each Brother received the Lodge De Goede Verwachting Toast List with the newly elected Office Bearers, a Centenary Brochure, which had been placed at each of the Brethren’s place-setting, as well as a souvenir lapel badge. Two members awarded special jewels
Right Worshipful Bro. Sydney Raymond (left) and Very Worshipful Bro. Issy Wolman (right) were both recently awarded special jewels from the Grand Lodge for being members of our lodge for a period of 60 years. This is a first for the Grand Lodge of South Africa, and very special for Lodge De Goede Verwachting. Also in the photo, Right Worshipful Bro. Morris Levin (middle).
